John Chapin - rasdt/rhdt

John Chapin is an accomplished salesperson and entrepreneur with a passion for HVAC systems, indoor air quality and energy efficiency. He has been selling in the residential HVAC industry for over a decade and although he has been very successful and created significant revenue for his employers, this is not a trade he chose, but rather arrived here by default and then excelled. 

John has a deep knowledge of energy efficiency which began when he was certified with Natural Resources Canada as a Registered Energy Advisor. These qualifications and credentials include training and education in building sciences, construction practices, building materials, and of energy efficiency. His knowledge continued to grow operating a small business, mentoring two other Energy Advisors, retaining four support staff and fleet vehicles – one of the most proficient and renowned company of its kind in Eastern Ontario. 

Though John explored many forms of marketing, his client base was generated primarily through contractor and customer referrals, driven by superior client relationship management, pure business development, and providing clients and Natural Resources Canada with accurate and insightful reporting supported by ethical business operations. When the government suddenly altered course and canceled the EcoEnergy Retrofit program, John needed to find immediate employment to provide for my family. A friend with a small heating and cooling company recruited him to sell air conditioners, which was appreciated and accepted given the sudden impact to his family’s budget.

To ensure success in my new role he enrolled in courses related to heat loss/heat gain, air flow, duct design, ventilation, and indoor air quality, earning the designations of a Residential Air Systems Design Technician (RASDT) and Residential Hydronics Design Technician (RHDT). Thus, John is adept at designing and commissioning residential HVAC systems under Ontario Building Code, but further it taught him the theory and fundamentals that he applies daily in problem solving not only for homeowners but to benefit of his fellow colleagues and technicians alike. 

John truly is an expert in HVAC systems, indoor air quality, and building science. He has worked for 3 different HVAC companies, achieving sales within the top 1% of sales people in Canada, while building a customer base and taking care of homeowners’ needs. His previous customers routinely seek him out, personally, for their HVAC and air quality needs. This is because of his depth and breadth of knowledge, his ability to liaise with their contractors providing them with technical guidance and recommendations while educating them in a language they can relate to and trust. 

As a team player he takes initiative and multi-tasks in a fast-paced environment. He is an effective communicator and public speaker, and is able to establish trust, credibility and loyalty quickly. Much of his success in life is a result of working hard, working smartly, and delivering on my promises.
